From Simple Storage to Industry Leader: The Quantum Story

In 1994, Quantum Storage Systems started small -- a six-page catalog, basic plastic bins, and big dreams. We saw gaps in the storage industry and set out to fill them with better solutions and faster service.

"We didn't know everything, but we knew our customers needed options -- and fast. It was about being flexible and finding solutions," says Vice President Dean Cohen, reflecting on those early days.

Our evolution from plastic bin specialists to comprehensive storage solutions providers marked several turning points. Recognizing the critical need for mobility in sectors like foodservice and healthcare, we expanded into wire shelving and molding our very own polymer shelving. This strategic diversification helped us capture new markets and establish our unique position.

Our debuts in foodservice at The NAFEM Show and janitorial and sanitation with the International Sanitary Supply Association (ISSA) proved pivotal, introducing us to key foodservice industry players and accelerating our growth. Today, we compete successfully against the competition by staying focused on what matters: delivering durable, efficient solutions without delays - with the best customer service in the business.

We've navigated challenges, but who hasn't?

We have faced our share of obstacles. Rather than letting limited resources hold us back, we doubled down on our strengths.

"We don't get bogged down in endless reports and fancy metrics. We care about results, not just data. If something works, we keep it. If it doesn't, we move on."

This practical mindset kept us nimble and responsive to market shifts. We've also mastered the balance between maintaining our culture and competing at the highest level. We emphasize cultivating an environment where team members feel valued and invested for the long term. Thanks for taking some time to speak with us, Dean. Let's start at a high level. If you could sum up Quantum Storage Systems in one phrase, what would it be?

Quantum is the leader in the storage and organization business. This is really the essence of who we are and what we do. It doesn't make a difference who we're targeting or what type of product it is. It's solely focused on storage and organization.

Can you tell us a bit about how the company was founded?

Quantum began with a six-page catalog in 1994. We developed around the culture that wanted to bring storage and storage solution ideas to a market that didn't have a lot of choices and a lot of brands, per se. We really saw a gap in the marketplace.

That catalog obviously expanded. Aside from the solutions themselves, what are the benefits of working with Quantum?

We're easy to work with, we have the largest portfolio of storage products, and we're reliably consistent shipping same and next day.

There are always hard times in business. Were there periods of doubt?

We didn't know how were going to be received in the market, so it was very satisfying when we started to see our brand name or our product as being the leading or premier product in the industry.

Quantum is everywhere now. Can you give us a few examples of where Quantum Storage Solutions products are being used that people might not expect?

It's funny. One of my favorite classes I took in college was astronomy. We watch a lot about the top rocket companies in the country and all these rockets that are going off, and I'm like, how cool would it be if Quantum products were all within these aerospace companies? And just yesterday, we received a $200,000 order shipping to a large aerospace company.

That's incredible. Quantum is part of the final frontier. But here's the big question, Dean. What do your personal organization skills look like?

I would tell you that human beings love to organize. Human beings love to be efficient, but my office at home is an absolute disaster. My wife reminds me of this daily.
